A Sad Day

a
"Saya mengabdi untuk negara,
tapi apa yang negara lakukan untuk saya?"
a
This question has always been in my head for many different reasons - big and small. Apart from what happened today, if one can be really honest, Indonesia is flawed in many ways. We just 'accept' to live with it because what choice do we have? Now when a man like Ahok comes to rise, many of us share a mutual hope of betterment for the city, for the country. For the very first time in a long, long time, we finally witnessed what the city has lost for years; a true sense of belonging, a genuine love towards a leader, a hope. Sometimes, just sometimes, our hearts and eyes see clearer when we eliminate labels like race and religion. For some, this is impossible, but if willing, tell us, what harm did actually Ahok do to our city? After today, some people will continue Ahok's fight, some might have given up and do nothing, and some would celebrate. It's up to you what you wanna do. But try asking the above question to yourself. It might give you an enlightenment.

"Silence becomes cowardice when occasion demands speaking out the whole truth and acting accordingly."

- Mahatma Gandhi

"There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right."

- Martin Luther King Jr.
